Grain free and Egg free Homemade Coconut and Pear Dog Cookie Recipe

1/26/2015

A healthy, nutritious homemade coconut and pear dog cookie recipe that is grain free and egg free, making it ideal for dogs with allergies or food sensitivities!

Coconut flour is grain and gluten free and is a healthy, low carbohydrate alternative to bleached grain flour. Coconut flour is especially good for helping to improve the skin and coat. Coconut oil is a healthy, easily digestible oil that helps improve the skin and coat condition! Raw, local honey is also great for dogs with allergies and adds a healthy sweetness to the treat! Lastly, this recipe uses pear puree (or baby food) as a main flavor ingredient and is sure to satisfy your dogs!

This recipe creates a moist, soft cookie. Due to the nature of the coconut flour, this specific recipe is not ideal for rolling out and cutting into shapes. You can treat these as drop cookies or simple roll them into small balls!

Due to a lack of preservatives in this recipe, these cookies will need to be stored in the refrigerator and can also be frozen!

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/2 cup of coconut flour
  • 1/2 cup of pear puree or pear baby food
  • 1 tablespoon of raw, local honey
  • 2 tablespoons of virgin, unrefined coconut oil
  • 3 tablespoons of water
DIRECTIONS

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Combine ingredients, mix thoroughly.
  3. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
  4. Roll dough into small balls, place on parchment paper.
  5. Bake in the oven for 10 minutes.

Making dog treats from home using healthy homemade recipes is the best way to provide nutritious treats that are easy to make, inexpensive, and do not contain any harmful or dangerous ingredients. Making your own dog cookies at home is the best way to avoid pet treat recalls and keep your furry family healthy and safe!

My dog may like these, but as a sufferer of gluten intolerance, I think I'm going to be eating some of these!

Is there something you can use instead of honey? My dog has several allergies and honey is one of them.

Thanks in advance

You could try unsulphured blackstrap molasses. It had lots of benefits and will give it the sweet taste of the honey.

I've been making homemade dog treats and food for last couple years. They love them more than store treats and never get recalled.,this sounds like a great addition to mine. I wasn't always sure about cocunut

Target carries it. My store had it on the top shelf on the baking isle over the regular flour. They also carry the jar of coconut oil.

You can pick up coconut flour at Giant in the organic aisle.

Bob's Mill is readily available at most major groceries, Amazon, and I even saw it at Walmart the other day.

I am making these today and am having a problem trying to decide how big the balls should be. I made them about large marble size and they just were not done after 10 min. I kept adding time until it was probably closer to 20 in and they are still very crumbly. The second batch I'm baking now, I smashed a little to see if they back more. I just don't know how well my dogs can eat them without them crumbling everywhere! Is that how they are supposed to be?

That's the same problem I'm having. I have a small dog so I only used a teaspoon size, cooked 13 minutes & they are still crumbly.

I made them this morning, actually cooked them 13 minutes because they didn't look or feel cooked, they are crumbly as crumbly as when I was making them. Do I need to cook them more or did I do something else wrong?

Try almond flower !
It should work just as well when you are allergic to coconuts, and YouTube can buy it in many stores already at the "baking goods" isles !
