Homemade, grain-free and loaded with nutrition! You can't go wrong with these super delicious dog treats made with coconut flour, peanut butter, unsweetened applesauce and a touch of honey! These moist treats make the perfect inexpensive alternative to buying training treats at home. Simply shape the dough into small bite-sized balls and use them for training!

Coconut flour is a tasty alternative to grain flours, the perfect ingredient for dogs who suffer from grain allergies and sensitivities. Coconut flour targets the skin and coat to help make a dog's fur soft, thick and healthy. If your dog has dry skin or dandruff, this is the perfect treat for them! Peanut butter and unsweetened applesauce provide flavour and aroma to make for a high value treat that can be used in training. Moist, bite-sized and quickly eaten - these treats are sure to help train even the most stubborn of dogs!

INGREDIENTS
  • 1 1/2 cups of coconut flour
  • 1 cup of smooth peanut butter
  • 1 cup of unsweetened applesauce
  • 3 eggs

DIRECTIONS
  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. In a large bowl add coconut flour, peanut butter, unsweetened applesauce and eggs.
  3. Combine thoroughly.
  4. Roll into bite-sized balls on to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  5. Bake for 10-15 minutes depending on your size of treat.

Easy to make, inexpensive, healthy and delicious! Any dog cookie with peanut butter and applesauce is sure to please your furry family member's tummy!

I use these treats for tracking and training, and they have never let me down! Hunter will do just about anything for these.

Don't have coconut flour? You can use 2 cups of whole wheat flour and 2 eggs instead! These homemade dog treats can be left on the counter for a maximum of two days before they will need to go in the fridge. It's the price we pay for feeding whole food treats with zero preservatives!

Angel
Since you are so good about sharing your recipes with us, I wanted to share one with you that I made for Baron tonight....it has his 3 most favorite ingredients in them....Peanut Butter, Bananas and Pumpkin. Here goes:]

2 cups coconut flour
3/4 cup ground flax seed (or flax seed meal)
2 large ripe bananas-mashed
1 cup smooth peanut butter
1 cup pumpkin puree (pure pumpkin)
2 eggs
3/4-1 cup of hot water (if needed)

Preheat oven to 350
Stir together flour and ground flax seed to combine.
Combine all the wet ingredients (except the water). Add to flour mixture and stir until dough comes together using water as needed to make a smooth dough. Roll out and cut into desired shapes (or shape into small balls). Bake 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. This recipe made approximately 4 1/2 dozen 3 inch cookies. Hope Hunter loves them as much as Baron has loved all your recipes....

Bob's Red Mill. Check other grocery stores. I have found all of these flours.

SAMs and Costco carry it, as well as Whole Foods or any natural store.

Cindy, My daughter & I are gluten intolerant, so I may be able to help you. Any health food store should carry these. Also, if there are any of the following stores near you, they carry them: Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Lowe's Foods. As Aldi and Walmart have started selling a multitude of gluten-free foods, I've been able to find different varieties of grain-free/wheat-free flours in these 2 stores as well. Good luck!

Blitz dessicated coconut in blender till fine. Coconut flour is basically ground dried coconut flakes. Coconut flour is finer in texture than dessicated coconut.
Coconut flour can be found in most health food or organic foodstores. Coconut flour is usually used by people who are gluten intolerant to make breads or cakes or gluten free food. Friends who are gluten intolerant will also be able to direct you to stores where gluten free ingredients are sold. You may find coconut flour there. All the best to your quest.

Why not half freeze them then put in food saver bags ? Then suck the air out of the bags. We do that with grapes and soft fruit. They stay fresh as the day they were sucked.

We keep bees and have access to raw unpasturized honey...one of our dogs had seasonal allergies so he got a tablespoon everyday. I am going to make these treats because I worry about the effects of all that sugar (honey) on his teeth! Loving the recipes for treats for the dogs!
