Simple and Easy Homemade Grain free Peanut Butter Dog Cookie Recipe

When you need a simple homemade dog cookie recipe that you can have ready in half an hour, these treats are perfect! They use only 3 ingredients, bake for 20 minutes and are full of beneficial nutrition.

Coconut flour is grain and gluten free and provides healthy oils for improving the skin and coat. Peanut  butter, ideally all natural, is a great source of protein and fantastic flavour. Lastly, the eggs provide additional protein and skin and coat healthy fats and oils. If you use all natural peanut butter, these treats are fairly low calorie!

Due to a lack of preservatives in this recipe, these cookies will need to be stored in the refrigerator and can also be frozen!

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup of coconut flour
  • 1 cup of all natural peanut butter
  • 4 eggs

DIRECTIONS
  1. Combine coconut flour, peanut butter and eggs in a mixing bowl.
  2. Mix thoroughly.
  3. Shape into 1-inch balls or roll out and cut shapes with a cookie cutter.
  4. Bake in the oven at 350 degrees F for 17-20 minutes

I'm pretty sure you mean to bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

I'm pretty sure that was mentioned in the instructions. F stands for Fahrenheit. Everybody knows that.

I think the point of using coconut flour is if you want it to be grain free and gluten free. Some dogs have sensitivities to grains.

I am thinking of making these for myself, beyond my dogged friends whom I'm sure will enjoy. Would fridge, zap heat, and 7-day max storage. May toss in a little local honey for my palate and pliability.

you could make your own oat flour which is also very low in gluten. All you have to do is put dry oats in the blender or food processor and le tit run until its smooth.

They sound great for my EPI dog who may not have ANY grain. My wife might object to the smell of them baking as she doesn't like the taste of coconut, but I'm sure the dog will love them, and so simple to make! Thanks for this recipe!

Hey Peter, I am not a fan a coconut either. I will tell you there is not a scent with this flour..I think your wife will be fine cooking with it, I could not even tell. Hope this helps!

You can also try almond flour for another gluten free option if you don't like using the coconut.

Question, Coconut Flour is extreamly expensive around here. 16 oz $7.99. Could I use another non-grain flour? Perhaps Tapioca Flour?

$7.99 is too expensive to ensure your dog is getting nutritious healthy treats? The price of commercially available high quality treats is actually far higher. Just sayin' ...

It’s a nice idea. Actually Choosing a dog food used to be a fairly simple matter - you found something your puppy would eat, and fed it to him. Do not feed anything containing onion, garlic, grapes, raisins, xylitol, artificial sweetners, raw yeast or bread dough, macadamia nuts, alcohol or avovado.

The dough does not spread when baked. I shaped them into balls and they stayed that way. Are they better rolled out, which is what your photo suggests?

Sue sometimes allergies are specific.I worked with a guy who was allergic to tomatos. He could eat ketchup since it does not have the tomato sees that he was allergic to. The dog may not be allergic to eggs just the chicken. Those look great my dogs love peanut butter.

I used the oatmeal idea for flour. Changed up recipe and they turned out great. Used 2 cups of ground quick cook oatmeal. 2 eggs, one banana and 1 cup of peanut butter. I made small balls 1 inch size smashed using a fork, the tradition criss cross design. Baked at 350 for 12 minutes for a soft cookie, bake longer for a crisper cookie. They actually taste pretty good.

I've been making everything with pumpkin lately it seems. But I have a ton of overripe bananas, so any ideas about swapping banana for the pumpkin in this recipe? These are great as they are, but I feel like they can work with banana. Thoughts on a substitution amount??

I can honestly say the treat recipes K9 Instincts share are safe for dogs and humans alike! Knowing what we are feeding our dogs us the reason most of us cook for them, if its not safe for us to eat, its not safe for them!
I've tasted everything I've ever made for our dogs over the years, some are delicious, like the blueberry/flaxseed I made today! Other times they taste like Communion wafers, but the digsove them, and they're made with simple ingredients! So go ahead, try a cookie!

Feeding your dog a grain free diet is necessary if your dog has a condition that requires it to not to eat grains. Grain isn't inherently bad for a dog... or you!
Whole wheat, all purpose, or any other kind of flour would work just fine in this recipe.

I use the powdered peanut butter, less calories. You will have to experiment with adding additional moisture. Pumpkin or applesauce.
