Dehydrated beef trachea chews make an excellent time-consuming snack and are fantastic for promoting dental health! These crunchy, lean pure protein chews are full of Chondroitin Sulfate and Glucosamine and are great for dogs with sensitive stomachs or allergies.

Purchasing raw beef trachea is extremely cheap! Buying in bulk can be even more inexpensive. Making these great chews will be cheaper for you and healthier for your dog!

How to make your own dried beef trachea chews!

  1. Preheat your oven to 190 degrees.
  2. Place your raw beef trachea on a rack over a cookie tray.
  3. Leave the trachea in the oven for 12 hours.
  4. Once the trachea are dark and hard, they are ready! Store them in a container or large ziploc bag.
  5. If they need more time, put them back in the oven and check them every 4 hours.

If you have a dehydrator, the process will be faster.

These are really easy to make, since all you have to do is pop them in the oven and forget about them for the day! They are cheap to make as well, since you can often buy them from a butcher or meat processing business for next to nothing.

Where do you get Beef Trachea from? Is this something they carry in a grocery store like walmart or HEB?

You should be able to get a packet, frozen, from a pet store.. i.e. Pets At Home if you are in UK.

I've never seen beef trachea anywhere. Would love to have a go at dehydrating those bad boys!

I called my local butcher. He didn't have any on hand. When he would, it's only 1 at a time, when he butchers a cow.
He gave me the phone number to a local slaughter house. They said they also just throw them away, so I'd need to order them in advance so they get saved the next butchering day. (she told me the days, so I would know) Maybe a local butcher can help you out, or you may be able to look one up online.
They want to charge me $5 per trachea though, which doesn't sound like a very good deal for something that's just getting thrown away. I'm going to keep checking around.

I'm a few years late to the party but apparently the trachea is a pain to get out so I could only get some because a friend works there and they said they'd do it as a favor- still paid $5/each.

I believe you can order these from the neighborhood butcher.

Do you leave the trachs. in for 12 hrs on 190 degrees? That long, or preheat the oven and then leave them in for 12 hours to dry out?

Would you be able to use goat & sheep for this as well?

I'm just starting out with raw feeding and wondering do they have to be cooked or can they be raw like bones? Or is that a really stupid question, lol....I have no clue.
