The benefits of raw green tripe for dogs!

Nature's own miracle food! Raw green tripe is one of the best additions you can make to your pet's diet. Whether or not you feed a balanced raw food diet, homemade meals or commercial kibble; there are many amazing benefits to this smelly, healthy food!

Raw green tripe is the stomach organ of ruminant animals such as cattle, elk, bison, lamb and venison. Raw green tripe is unbleached and full of living nutrients, unlike the white honeycomb tripe you find in your grocery store. That white tripe has been bleached, sterilized and has had all of the digestive enzymes and nutrients destroyed. White tripe has no benefit to dogs, but raw green tripe has tons!

Raw green tripe is lower in fat, is an excellent source of protein and has a calcium to phosphorous ratio of 1:1, which is perfect for dogs! Raw green tripe is full of living digestive enzymes and healthy probiotics, too!
Picture
Some of the many incredible benefits of feeding raw green tripe include an improvement to skin and coat condition, reduction in allergy symptoms and skin conditions, cleaner teeth, improved digestion and absorption of nutrients, a reduction in digestive disorders and problems, and overall improvement to general health. That is just the tip of the iceberg, this canine superfood is proving to be an essential part of a truly healthy diet.

The only downside? The smell! Raw green tripe smells absolutely terrible, but luckily the benefits of feeding this food are so great that most pet parents are willing to sacrifice their appetite to include this in their dog's food bowl.

Green tripe is so beneficial to dogs that it is something they can eat every single day, and can be fed as a muscle meat as part of a dog's raw food diet.  Tripe can also be used as a food topper for finicky dogs and would be an excellent addition to a sick dog's diet.

This is great to know! My husband being a hunter we try to use as much if not all the deer, and now I know that I should save the stomach. What else on a deer should we save for our German Shepard dog?

Linda, there is a lot you can take off the deer. The ribs, the heart, the brain, the kidneys, the liver, the spleen, of course the tripe, the muscle meat... just avoid weigh bearing bones and thick, dense bones that are hard to crush.

If Chronic Wasting Disease is an issue in your area, I'd skip the brain.

Also, Angel are you on twitter?

Merri, excellent point! Definitely do some investigation before you feed brain!

Two tablespoons for kibble feeders, two tablespoons for homemade diet feeders and for raw feeder it is fed as a muscle meat, so however much desired.

You can usually buy tripe at a provincially (not federally) lisenced abittoir. A tripe can weigh anywhere from 15 to 30 lbs.

Green Village Packing Company in Green Village NJ (outside Morristown) has it. You have to call them, though, it's not listed on their website. It comes in 10 lb blocks, and make sure they're frozen!

Since we started feeding raw to the kids, raw tripe has been an big treat for them. They always loved the canned stuff, but the raw they go nuts over, even my Mr Picky eater. The only thing about it I have to do is wash faces and chests after they eat, 'cause the tripe stinks to high heaven and so do they..

I purchase the Tripett Lamb green tripe in cans (12 cans to a case) from Amazon. That's been the best price point I can find as it's been difficult to locate the fresh stuff here where I live. I feed raw and I use the tripe primarily as a supplement (1/2 can per meal twice a week) As the article suggests, you can certainly feed more than that but I'm trying to find the "happy place" between cost and frequency.

I looked up the beef and lamb tripe by tripett and they both have carrageen in them. Is this harmful for the dogs? I checked out Wikipedia and it seems as though there is some concern. Europe banned it.

I've recently found a dehydrated version of green tripe from http://www.bigdognatural.com/dehydrated-raw-foods. They are an online company based in Brick, NJ (If you live close to Brick, you can also go to their store). They also have chicken and beef varieties, both with tripe mixed in. Their ingredients list is awesome, and my dog's salivation rate whilst I'm preparing these foods is even more awesome. I highly recommend.

They used to do frozen, but have more recently switched to air drying their foods, as the shipping costs are so much cheaper, and less hazardous. They have a great price too.

K9 Instinct, I'd value your take on Big Dog Natural's food as well?

Top Quality Dog Food delivers up the Jersey Turnpike once a month, so Lynda on Long Island you could order it and pick it up at the Thomas Edison Service Center on the Jersey Turnpike. Rustann, you could also pick up on the Jersey Turnpike. The Thomas Edison service center additional stops south there is no delivery fee. If North of there, Vince Lombardi is the northern service center he stops at but there is a delivery charge for the northern deliveries but very inexpensive at cents per pound. Thomas Edison service center and south is delivered the first Saturday of the month. And Vince Lombardi service center and north is delivered the second Saturday of the month.

How close is freeze-dried green tripe to the raw green tripe? That's the only thing I can get here. Does freeze-dried still have the digestive enzymes in it?

I had two Great Danes who were fed on green tripe direct from the abbatoir. They both lived a very healthy life and died at 12.5 years old, much longer than the average age for Great Danes.

Hi,

Sorry, I missed out on the discussion. But was wondering if (and how) I could search for a provincially licensed abattoir San Diego, California for green tripe.

Thx!

I saw one comment from "Mell" "...Europe banned it" that can't be. I am from Europe, and where I am from, they cook tripe soup at the elementary school cafeteria for kids as the most nutritious meal. I grew up on it. Obviously you should seek at a local butcher or farm and best option would be from organic grass fed cows.. Good luck!

I live in Texas and I'm thinking about doing raw food for my shiloh shephard. He is healthy but need to fatten him up. Any thoughts about raw dog food / dry kibble..also where can I get green tripe in Texas? Haven't been able to find it anywhere.

I wouldn't feed kibble period. Majority of kibble is carbohydrates which equals sugar. Most bags of kibble (even those that say grain free) work out to about 50% sugar... I feed freeze dried raw and raw. Chewy.com has excellent products from New Zealand called K9 Natural and they also have freeze dried tripe.

I just want to say Thank You to everyone who supported me through the years. My name is Manuel Franco, New Berlin, Wisconsin. My story of how I won the Powerball lottery of $768.4M is a bit of a tale. I have been playing Powerball tickets for 6 years now since I turned 18. I bought my first ticket on my 18 birthday. I was feeling very lucky that day because I had contacted Dr. Odunga Michael to help me with the winning Powerball numbers. I really had that great great feeling that I looked at the camera wanting to wink at it. I only did a tiny part of it and trusted him. He gave me the numbers after I played a couple other tickets along with it for $10. I checked my ticket after the winnings came online and saw the numbers were correct including the Power play. I screamed for about 10 minutes because it felt like a dream. I had won $768.4M. You can check my winning testimony with the lottery officials just with my name search. Thank you Dr Odunga. Well, his email is [email protected] and you can also call or Whats-app him at +2348167159012 so you guys can contact him

Be sure to check these areas thoroughly during grooming sessions or after outdoor activities to ensure you catch any ticks before they have a chance to attach.
