Nothing beats a treat made out of healthy organic, raw ingredients! Brad's Raw 4 Paws uses healthy vegetables, fruits and seeds which are dehydrated to preserve nutrients and living enzymes! These yummy cookies are kale-based, which is fantastic since kale is a nutritional powerhouse loaded with good stuff! You can feel good about feeding these treats to your dog, since they are GMO-free, grain free, gluten free, high in fiber, contain no animal products, are low on the glycemic scale. They are also "people quality", and yes, my husband once again sampled Hunter's new Brad's Raw 4 Paws cookies!

These delicious, highly nutritious treats are perfect for dogs with grain allergies and other food sensitivities. They are also made entirely in the United States.

Brad's Raw 4 Paws "Garden Gourmet" Dog Treats
INGREDIENTS:
Kale, Buckwheat Groats, Carrots, Coconut Oil, Parsley, Himalayan Sea Salt

Grain free, organic, kale-based, no animal products, people quality, high fiber, gluten free, low glycemic, no hormones, made in the USA!

I really like the concept of raw, not just when it comes to a dogs' diet but also in regards to treats; which is why I really love this product. Nutrients and enzymes get destroyed in the cooking process, so gently dehydrated these wholesome ingredients preserves all the goodness our dogs can seriously benefit from! Kale is one of my favourite greens to feed to a dog, it is full of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, iron and calcium.

Hunter loved the cookies and drooled over them in the endearing way he does for all of his favourite treats. I was very happy with the quality of the treats and the packaging was also extremely well done! If you're looking for a high quality grain-free treat packed full of raw nutrition, look no further!

Homemade Grain Free Pumpkin Pie Dog Cookie Recipe

3/7/2013

Picture
These delicious homemade, grain-free pumpkin pie dog cookies smell incredible! Baking these tasty dog treats will surely fill your home with the delightful aroma of pumpkin and cinnamon.

This recipe is grain free, making it perfect for dogs with grain allergies or a grain sensitivity. In this dog treat recipe I use nutritious coconut flour, which is great for your dog's skin and coat health. Feel free to substitute the coconut flour with whole wheat flour, arrowroot flour, oat flour, rice flour or potato flour if that is your preference!

Picture
INGREDIENTS
  • 1 cup of coconut flour
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon of raw honey
  • 3/4 cup of pure pumpkin puree
  • 1/2 cup of smooth peanut butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon

Picture
DIRECTIONS
  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
  2. In a large bowl mix the pumpkin puree, eggs, honey, peanut butter and cinnamon.
  3. Add the coconut flour and stir it in very well.
  4. Shape your cookies to your liking, place on a cookie sheet lined in parchment paper. (Adjust based on thickness of the cookies)
  5. Bake for 20-25 minutes.

My favourite way to shape these cookies is in small bite-sized balls, but I also make them in small flat cookie shapes as well as shapes using cookie cutters.  Depending on the thickness of your cookies you may need to leave them longer in the oven. 20-30 minutes will suffice for thicker cookie shapes. The center of these cookies should be moist, though! A crunchier outer layer with a soft center makes for a drool-worthy cookie!

How to make your own dehydrated / dried beef trachea chews.

3/3/2013

Dehydrated beef trachea chews make an excellent time-consuming snack and are fantastic for promoting dental health! These crunchy, lean pure protein chews are full of Chondroitin Sulfate and Glucosamine and are great for dogs with sensitive stomachs or allergies.

Purchasing raw beef trachea is extremely cheap! Buying in bulk can be even more inexpensive. Making these great chews will be cheaper for you and healthier for your dog!

How to make your own dried beef trachea chews!

  1. Preheat your oven to 190 degrees.
  2. Place your raw beef trachea on a rack over a cookie tray.
  3. Leave the trachea in the oven for 12 hours.
  4. Once the trachea are dark and hard, they are ready! Store them in a container or large ziploc bag.
  5. If they need more time, put them back in the oven and check them every 4 hours.

If you have a dehydrator, the process will be faster.

Picture
These are really easy to make, since all you have to do is pop them in the oven and forget about them for the day! They are cheap to make as well, since you can often buy them from a butcher or meat processing business for next to nothing.

Homemade Peanut Butter and Pumpkin Dog Treats

3/1/2013

Picture
These homemade peanut butter and pumpkin dog treats are delicious! They are super simple to make, fast and very inexpensive. It took only 30 minutes to make a big batch of this particular recipe, and chances are really good that you already have the ingredients somewhere in your kitchen!

If you are in need of a grain-free version of this, take out the instant oats and switch out the whole wheat flour for chickpea flour, coconut flour or arrowroot flour! You may need to add extra eggs or water to help bind the batter. Instead of two cups of whole wheat flour, use 1 1/2 cups of your grain-free choice!

Picture
Ingredients
  • 2 cups of whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup of instant oats
  • 1 cup of pure pumpkin puree
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup of smooth or crunchy peanut butter

Picture
Directions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
  2. In a large bowl combine the flour and oats.
  3. Add in the pumpkin puree, eggs and peanut butter then combine all the ingredients.
  4. Place the batter in your size and shape of preference on a cookie sheet on parchment paper (or a non-stick pan).
  5. Bake in oven for 20 minutes.

Homemade Grain-Free Peanut Butter Bite Dog Treats!

2/23/2013

Picture
There is nothing better than homemade dog treats!

Made from nutritious coconut flour to help nourish the skin and coat, these grain-free cookies are perfect for dogs with grain allergies or sensitivities. They are flavoured with real peanut butter and made entirely from whole foods. It cost me a mere $4 and some change to make a large container of cookies, which makes them extremely cost effective! On top of that, they only took approximately 30 minutes to make. These cookies are big on flavour and small in the cost and time department!

You can substitute the coconut flour with whole wheat flour if that is your preference. Be aware that coconut flour absorbs more liquid than your typical grain flour. This means you will have to add more water to accommodate the potentially dry batter.

Homemade Grain-Free "Peanut Butter Bite" Dog Cookies

Ingredients:
  • 2 cups of coconut flour
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1 cup of smooth or crunchy peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup of honey
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/3 cup of extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 cup of hot water (add more if needed!)

Picture
Directions:
  1. Preheat oven to 360 degrees F.
  2. In a large bowl combine the coconut flour and baking powder.
  3. In a separate bowl add the eggs, honey, water, oil, and the peanut butter and then whisk everything together until combined.
  4. Add the dry ingredients to the peanut butter mixture and combine.
  5. Place the batter in your size and shape of preference on a cookie sheet on parchment paper (or a non-stick pan).
  6. Bake in oven for 20 minutes or until golden brown.

Picture
If you notice that your cookie batter is too crumbly and dry, just add some more hot water until it's just right. The coconut flour is a fantastic alternative to grain flour but you can never know for sure just how much water you'll need to add to make the batter just right.

Shape these however you want since this is a versatile cookie batter. I always make the bite sized balls, approximately one inch in size. Perfect bite sized pieces for a big German Shepherd mouth!

These are definitely Hunter's favourite cookies. He leaves a pile of drool behind when he is done snacking on these delicious peanut butter treats!
